The 6g network and technology signifies the sixth generation of cellular networks, advancing from the innovations of 5G. Here are some key features of 6G.
Enhanced Speeds and Reduced Latency:
6G is anticipated to utilize ultra-high frequencies, offering much faster data transfer rates and lower latency than 5G. As a result, data transmission will be nearly instantaneous.
Improved Connectivity:
6G is designed to provide widespread connectivity by integrating technologies like satellite, WiFi, and cellular networks. This will enable smooth communication across diverse platforms.
Innovative Applications:
Thanks to its high-speed and low-latency features, 6g network and technology will support advanced applications such as cutting-edge augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and more advanced Internet of Things (IoT) devices.
AI and Machine Learning Integration:
6g network and technology will incorporate artificial intelligence and machine learning to enhance network performance, efficiently manage resources, and enable intelligent automation.
Energy Efficiency:
A key objective of 6G is to enhance energy efficiency, making the network more sustainable and minimizing its environmental impact.
Expected Timeline:
Currently in the research and development stage, 6G is projected to be commercially deployed by the late 2030s.
6G (sixth-generation wireless) is the next evolution after 5G cellular technology. It will utilize higher frequencies than 5G, offering significantly greater capacity and much lower latency. A key objective of 6G is to enable communications with latency as low as one microsecond.
The Government of India is driving research and innovation for 6G technology to ensure that India leads in this field by 2030. The aim is for India to not only be self-reliant in this crucial technology but also to play a significant role globally.
To achieve this, the Department of Telecommunications set up a Technology Innovation Group on 6G (TIG-6G) on November 1, 2021. This group includes members from various government ministries, research institutions, universities, telecom companies, and industry experts. Their task is to create a vision, mission, and goals for 6G and to develop a roadmap and action plans for its implementation in India.
The TIG-6G has established six Task Forces, each focusing on different areas:
1. Multi-Disciplinary Innovative Solutions
2. Next-Generation Networks
3. Spectrum Management for Future Needs
4. Device Development
5. Contribution to International Standards
6. Research and Development Funding
These Task Forces are examining how emerging telecom technologies can be used in the future, the devices needed to support these technologies, how to manage the growing demand for wireless communication spectrum, the importance of contributing to global standards, and the necessary funding for the Bharat 6G Mission.
