Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala and Union Revenue Secretary Sanjay Malhotra announced that the “Mera Bill, Mera Adhikar” scheme will foster a culture of generating GST bills.
They launched the scheme in Gurugram, aiming to encourage consumers to request invoices for their purchases. The initiative, introduced as a pilot project in Assam, Gujarat, Haryana, Puducherry, Daman & Diu, and Dadra & Nagar Haveli will gradually expand across the nation, Including Odisha, West Bengal, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand etc.
Under this initiative, there is an annual fund of ₹30 crore, with quarterly awards of ₹1 crore for two consumers and monthly awards of ₹1 lakh for ten consumers. The scheme’s purpose is to enhance GST awareness among consumers, motivating them to seek bills and ensure their transactions are part of the GST system.
Chautala noted the positive impact of GST since its launch in 2016, with increased tax collection and simplified tax regulations, resulting in an average tax rate of around 12%. He highlighted that monthly GST collections have risen from ₹1 lakh crore in 2017 to ₹1.60 lakh crore currently. Union Revenue Secretary Sanjay Malhotra, co-launching the scheme, emphasized its goal of promoting the practice of requesting invoices for all purchases.
